Well it's a week tomorrow since I've been here. What have I been up to you ask? Well, let me tell you!
I watched attractive men skate around and beat each other up...aka hockey. It was super fun. Utah State won by the way. Aggies all the way!
I went thrift store shopping. I found a guitar I absolutely LOVED. Only 28 dollars!! What a steal right?? But not. Since I don't play and it was in an antique store I decided it was not worth the risk of wasting almost 30 dollars (which I told myself is about 6 trips to Pizza Pie Cafe and let's face it, that's a lot of delicious pizza!) It was still a glorious day. Although I still feel like I shouldn't be let into public. While in one store my purse got caught on a display and I knocked it down. Course the display was Valentine's lingerie. So that was just great. Classy.
I also attended a Groundhog's Day party. I finally watched the movie Groundhog's Day. Then we "adopted" groundhogs and I got a cute little drawing of a groundhog named Little Joe. He's such a good son too, he just quietly sits there on my desk.
Kevin and I watched the Superbowl together. I was a little disappointed in the ads sadly but there were a few good ones. Driving home was scary because of the intense fog. It was legit straight out of a horror movie. Especially when a guy decided to cross the street right in front of me. I just imagined him stopping in front of the car suddenly and staring at me all creepily. Luckily, he didn't do that. Instead he just acted like the car and I did not even exist. Geez.
Court and I decided to go to Firehouse pizza and get ourselves a delicious ph'zookie. What a cool word that is. Go ahead, say it. Say it. Outloud. "Vampire." hahaha sorry, Twilight moment. If you haven't seen that movie, sorry just ignore it and move on. Anywaaaays, it was pretty darn delicious. Then we came home and I got her addicted to one of my favorite tv shows of all time. ED! It's just such a fantastic show and now I've got her hooked on it. So that's how we'll be spending our free time together.
What a cute cast they are. Watch the show! You will not regret it! Oh and if my future husband is reading this. You will watch every episode of this with me. Also, take notes because Ed is freaking adorable and does the sweetest things.

I've also become addicted to Alias. I used to watch it but I don't remember much (except how extremely attractive Michael Vartan is. I mean really, he's pretty fantastic) Everyone has good things to say except that they hate the series finale. Sooo pretty sure I'll actually end up hating it. I hate when things don't have a good ending. I am not picky about movies or shows really as long as it has a happy ending. So screw you Alias for sucking me in and then making me waste time and watch all 5 seasons just to hate it in the end. Why don't I just stop while I'm in season 1?? I can't. It's too late. Just gotta see it through.
See? Beautiful huh? At least I have this face to look at.

And last but definitely not least, today was national pancake day which meant FREE PANCAKES. So yes, Court and I went. I couldn't finish it all so I took the rest to my brother. You are welcome Kevin.
That's all for now. I know it's super exciting. My life is really just one never ending party. Oh! Speaking of parties....Mardi Gras party on campus this weekend. Who is excited??? Me :)

Hello Utah

I'm officially back in Utah! It was quite the interesting day to get here.
On my flight from Chicago to Denver I was sitting next to a precious old man named Carl who had a sweet mustache. He told me all about his travels to D.C. and North Carolina because he works for the NRA (he then showed me the back of his hat which said NRA... in case I didn't understand what he said the first time I guess) then he showed me his ring...which was made from an elk tooth. Oh! He's also a pilot. So yeah, Carl was a pretty cool guy. Kept me company...until he fell asleep.
He did tell everyone on the flight to let me go first though since I had a short layover. What a guy that Carl, what a guy.
I then spent the night in Salt Lake where I went on a date and we ended up running from the Trax police. Long story short, we are wanted criminals. What can I say? Utah has changed me already.
Now I'm with Court and it's just wonderful. She even got me to get up at 8 so I could go to Zumba with her. It was my first time going and it was surprisingly fun! Although I also didn't know half the moves...the teacher was the hardest teacher there...and I was still sore from running through the airport (don't judge me for that. My backpack and carry on were heavy! And running through airports with all that extra weight can be painful!) But overall, Zumba was fun. Now she wants to do a step class tomorrow at 9. What have I started??
It's good to be here though. I can't explain what it is but I feel like this is where I need to be. Sure feels good to feel like I'm exactly where I need to be! :)

Don't forget to play.

Recently I heard tragic news about a boy I knew when I was younger. He was in a car accident and passed away. He was only 20 and it breaks my heart to think how young he was and how much life he had left to live. It made me stop and think abut my own life, my own dreams and ambitions. I said in my earlier post that I love the New Year because it makes me feel like I can do just about anything I dreamed of. Mix that in with the terrible news and I just can't stop thinking about how short life is and how we have to go out and live it.
This winter I have a break from school and I had it all planned out to make money and do things I needed to do. Those plans have fallen through and I'm left having no idea what I'm going to be doing for the next 3 months. You know what though? I love it. I love not knowing what is going to come next, who I will meet and how much they'll change my life, if I'll be working and where and not knowing what could happen day to day. I love not knowing, it makes me feel...free in a way. It makes me feel like I could almost do anything. Will I go out and change the world? Probably not. Will I go out and become rich and famous? Definitely not...but I wouldn't mind. But there's other things that can happen that are just as great.
I don't want to waste my life focusing so much on things that aren't important. People put way too much focus and effort into things that don't and shouldn't matter. People stress too many things that are just pointless in the grand scheme of things...relationship drama (especially when it isn't even your own), designer clothes, cars, rumors, friendship drama, money...it all seems so important. I know you need money to do just about anything in this world. I understand, I'm not naive. But when I told a friend of mine that I didn't know my plan for the next 3 months or if I'd find a place to work, he said "so you're just going to play?" He said it in a way that was negative, as if that was a bad thing, to play. He thinks much differently than I do and I respect that but when did the world forget that playing is good? When did everyone forget that the world is our playground? I look at the children today and see them wanting so badly to grow up and be adults and it breaks my heart. I wish I could go back to being a kid where you're allowed to play outside for hours with your friends. You make lemonade stands, not to make money, but because it's fun. You don't care if you get your clothes or hands dirty, as long as you had fun. The world is growing up too fast.
Each of us has a life that needs to be lived while we still can. It's a shame that people die so young, so full of life left un-lived. If I do anything with my life, I want to make sure I lived it. I don't care if I'm unsuccessful and poor in the world's eyes. If I live my life and play on the world's playground, I'll be successful, rich and happy in my eyes. That's what truly matters. Life is so short. Don't take anything for granted and don't wish it would go faster. Enjoy the time of your life you are in, whether as a child, college student, parent or grandparent, don't forget to play.

Happy Birthday Benny!

Warning:cheesy birthday post for a friend
If you don't know this said friend, you might not care.
If you do know this said friend, you still might not care.
You are still reading though...you have been warned.

I have a friend that I call Benny
Although that's not his name.
It all started with sledding
And then a simple game.
It progressed into endless talking
Band practices, yet never a show.
Constantly him mocking
The silly boys I've grown to know.
Seems like he's always there to comfort me
And even make me smile
When I fall for the ones I'm too blind to see
That leave me fighting him with my denial.
He listens to my drama, about both girls and boys.
No matter how silly it seems
He always answers with poise
While I always take them to a whole new extreme.
He came with us to prom one year
It could have quite terrible
But he was just so sweet and dear
He ended up making it quite bearable.
He visited me at work
And went with me for fro-yo
He said he liked me for my quirks
And taught me to go with the flow.
And so this is my blog for him
To say thank you for it all
My life without you could be real grim
Even if I hardly did anything with "y'all"
I just had to throw that in real quick
Since I know you love it so
I don't know how you can think it's sick.
Kinda how I feel about Mothman
And how you said his eyes glow.
I really should end this while I can
This is too long, so I should go
But I just want to thank you
For being the best neighbor I know :)

Happy Birthday!

Happy New Year! 2013-the year to make things happen

It's my turn for the cheesy new years post. And let me warn you...it will indeed be cheesy because I love new years. I love the excitement of something new. The feeling of hope and change in the air just because it is a new year...when really we could change any day of the year that we wanted. But there is the excitement each time the new year rolls around with the perfect nudge to push you towards being a new person, making a list of resolutions to help you to be a better version of yourself.
To me, I love the idea of the unknown. The hope of all the great things that can happen in the new year. A year is a long time. Some things you can hope for and imagine while others can be so unexpected and great that it was impossible for you to imagine.
It's the anticipation. The excitement. The hope. That's what I love.
I don't usually make resolutions because I don't end up keeping them. But this year, there's one thing I want to change. This year I'm going to make things happen. This year I'm not going to just cross my fingers and hope for things to happen. I can't just sit by and watch my dreams fade into the past. I'm going to make things happen while I still can.
Happy 2013!
I have a feeling it's going to be a good year :)

I lied...lots of awkward things happen to me.

Okay I like to think I can go days hours without something awkward happening. Oh silly expectations that I have...I just set myself up to fail. Today started out normal, not super weird, just the usual amount of weirdness. Like when I'm at work and I try to find my boss so I walk in the hall  which was filled with students for some meeting who all stop talking as I pass and watch me walk. Course I couldn't find my boss...so I ended up passing again and...again. But that was survivable.
The real story starts at Walmart. You know how you think that you always get the cart that makes the most noise? Well my roommate actually does. Every. Time. And I just find it hilarious. So we're finally done shopping and we are heading to the check out lines. We are just strolling along, behind two slow girls who are taking their time, as we are clunking (and yes I mean clunking. *cluuuuunk cluuuuuunk cluuuuuunk*) they slowly turn and look at us. Granted, we were walking slightly close to them and our cart was pretty loud so it may or may have sounded like a creepy pirate with a peg leg was following them. I laugh trying to help the situation..they gave me a slight smile and swerve down a different aisle.
We get to the check out line. First thing I notice? The man was wearing a santa hat, with the ball hanging directly in the middle of his face. The girl in front of us handed him a 5 dollar bill and let me just tell you how their conversation went:
"This is a 20 dollar bill."-man in hat at register
"It's a 5..."-girl that handed him a 5 dollar bill
"No, it's a 20. That is a 2 upside down, not a 5."
"Uh. Pretty sure that is a 5."
"Nope. Here's your change, 15 dollars."
Sooo essentially if I heard correctly that girl made money when she went to Walmart. What am I doing wrong here?
Then it's our turn...
"Hi how are you?"-hat man
"Good. You?"-Courtney
"I'd be better if I wasn't wearing this hat. Then again it's not as bad as that guy's (motions to guy a few rows over...that guy's hat was standing straight up) But he's like a peacock..very extravagant. *long pause* oh wait! Not extravagant in thaaaaat way but...extravagant. Like your outfit, it's extravagant. You've got style."-hat man
At this point Courtney and I are doing the awkward smile and nod...the awkward chuckle and shuffle, just trying to hurry up this much too painful process.
"Okay, I guess you have style too." says hat man looking at me. Oh thank you Mr. hat check out man. I am just soo flattered that you think I have style too. It's almost like I've been waiting my whole life to hear you tell me that.
"You see that girl on check out 5? With the red hair? You should go tell her that you like her hair. It will make her day, she did it herself. But will you tell her? No. Because you are cold hearted girls. Cold hearted."-Hat man
I know they say you can find some interesting people in Walmart (such as the boy who looked like he was 12 years old but he was married...is that legal?) but when you add me into the equation...it's just not good in any way. Except for maybe the funny stories that I get to share with my lovely blog followers. (Is anyone even still reading these silly ramblings? If so I applaud you and thank you and bow down to you, because you are a mighty being. So thanks. You are wonderful.)
And that is all. Goodnight y'all!

Sometimes awkward things happen to me

Sometimes awkward things happen to me. Or I make awkward things happen. It's not that I necessarily mean to. But a while ago I decided to stop fighting my awkwardness and just embrace it. Since then it has gotten worse. Luckily Hollywood seems to be on my side since awkwardness is now becoming more endearing and is now just called quirky and "cute." Not that I fit in that category, but I'm at least leaning that way and hoping to be pulled into it and embraced by the rest of my fellow awkward friends.
Today was one of those days where I wasn't quirky. I was just awkward, let's be honest and say it was not as bad as some other situations I have been in, but it was not one I would like to relive again any time soon.
This story revolves around a boy. We shall call him "Billy Bob" for reasons that are obvious. It's the perfect code name, back in those middle school days when code names were all the rage and every boy you ever had eye contact with had one. Mine were oh so creative...such as Johnny (because I loved Johnny Depp) Sheen (because I can't talk and I messed up his name) and "the hat" (because he was wearing a hat at a football game we went to) What can I say? I'm an expert at code names.
Anyways, Billy Bob is cute. Like one of those people you look at and wonder if the rest of the family is that attractive or if all the good genes just went straight to him. (do other people ever wonder that?) So we are sitting in class* in rows with some empty seats in the middle.
*certain parts of this story may or may not be changed just to deceive Billy Bob...who I'm almost positive isn't reading this, but if he is, and it's obvious that this is you...then hello, and welcome.
So he walks in and goes to sit in the middle seat, as he is passing by us he ends up kinda hitting my foot with his and says sorry. Then sits down. Then, me being me, I kiddingly, let me strain that by putting it in italics...kiddingly, lean over to my friend to whisper "he said sorry to me" in a girly, way-too-excited-about-one-simple-word way, to which she replied "oh goodness, you are like a sixth grader!" Which may or may not be a fair statement.
The rest of class is passing as I try not to look at him. I'm doing a great job until at one point I peek over there and my friend sees and of course HAS to point it out to me that I am "creepin" on him. This said friend, then swooshes her hair over her eyes and says that I look like I'm creepily staring at him through my hair.
*quick side note-if you know me at all, you know I laugh super easily at just about anything that has any amount of humor in it. And my laugh is...interesting. It is loud and unique. One of those that if you hear it but can't see where it is coming from, you just know that I am somewhere near by.*
So as this said friend swooshes her hair at me in class, I laugh...RIGHT as the teacher stops talking about something spiritual and the class is completely quiet. It was just the beginning of my laugh...so it came out sounding more of like a loud HAAA before I slapped my hands over my mouth and shimmied down in my chair as everyone turned to look at me...including Billy Bob from down the row. Oh hello, in case you didn't know who I was, you probably do now...so glad to make such an impression on you. Now, don't you want to get to know me better?
